UPTET is divided into two papers. Candidates of primary level (classes 1-5) take paper-I. Candidates of upper primary level (classes 6-8) take paper-II. Candidates who want to teach at both levels will have to take both papers.

- Comprehension passages, grammar, tenses, sentence structure, vocabulary
Mathematics 30 Questions
- Numbers, basic operations, fractions, measurements, geometry basics, data handling
Environmental Studies 30 Questions
- Family & community, environment, basic science & social studies topics relevant to primary classes
Paper II — Upper Primary (Class 6–8) — Topic Breakdown
Core sections (total 150 Questions)
- Child Development & Pedagogy — 30 Questions
- Language I (Hindi) — 30 Questions
- Language II (English/Urdu/Sanskrit) — 30 Questions
- Subject-specific — 60 Questions (choose one): Mathematics & Science OR Social Studies
