UPTET Syllabus & Test Pattern 2025 Paper I & II

UPTET is divided into two papers. Candidates of primary level (classes 1-5) take paper-I. Candidates of upper primary level (classes 6-8) take paper-II. Candidates who want to teach at both levels will have to take both papers.

• Marks: 150 (each question = 1 mark)
• Time: 150 minutes per paper
• Negative marking: Nil

Paper I — Primary Stage (Class 1–5) — Topic Breakdown

Child Development and Pedagogy, 30 Questions

• Child growth & development, learning theories (Piaget, Vygotsky, Skinner etc.)
• Teaching-learning processes, inclusive education, assessment for learning

Language I (Hindi) 30 Questions

• Reading comprehension, grammar, language usage, vocabulary, pedagogy of language teaching

Language II (English / Urdu / Sanskrit , choose one) 30 Questions

• Comprehension passages, grammar, tenses, sentence structure, vocabulary

Mathematics 30 Questions

• Numbers, basic operations, fractions, measurements, geometry basics, data handling

Environmental Studies 30 Questions

• Family & community, environment, basic science & social studies topics relevant to primary classes

Paper II — Upper Primary (Class 6–8) — Topic Breakdown

Core sections (total 150 Questions)

• Child Development & Pedagogy — 30 Questions
• Language I (Hindi) — 30 Questions
• Language II (English/Urdu/Sanskrit) — 30 Questions
• Subject-specific — 60 Questions (choose one): Mathematics & Science OR Social Studies

Paper-II emphasizes on subject knowledge and pedagogical understanding for upper primary teachers.
